Permanent Lights Along Eves with Rope Lights

I still would like to have permanent lights along the eves of our home with an emphasize for the lights to be "hidden" when they are not on. In other words, the lights should hide behind the facia. Unfortunately, in many places I only have like 1/2" from the bottom of the facia to the soffit. So the general approach with J-channels, PermaTrack, etc doesn't work well as they will stick out. So I wonder if something like rope lights would work. They might still stick out a bit. I can think of a few pros and cons:

Pros:
* More even light distribution as the rope diffuses the light
* At ~1/2" diameter they stick out less
* Better sealed from the environment (we are in Northern CA so maybe not that important)

Cons:
* Can't easily replace a single LED that broke
* Can't paint the space between two LEDs with the color of the facia as you would lose the light distribution between the two LEDs
* More expesive
* Not as bright as the tube will absorb some of the light

Any input is appreciated.

Here is what I am talking about. I just took the first best link on Amazon...
