I am coming back to display my show again after almost a decade and am having trouble programming my pics to the firmware that i need. cant figure out how to compile my own but i know there is a pwm version already compiled and ready to download somewhere because i did it many years ago. I cant find it and have spent two days looking only to find broken links and redirects to Chinese porn sites help a dude and send me a link to a download

The trick to compiling it yourself is to download the latest version of MPLAB iDE and not MPLAB X. You can find it on the download site on microchip.com and click the button to access the archives.

I have to look into it more when I have time, but apparently they have dropped the msasm compiler from the newest version so that'll probably make it troublesome to compile it.

That is the trouble that I was having. I did however find a working copy of pickit2 v2.61 in the forum which is why I needed a precompiled .asm or .hex file. My show years ago was transitioning to pixels and was using some code in the renard to bridge the sandevice unit to my controller. There had been many windstorms in November which blew my 25ft pixel tree down and was catastrophic enough for me to sell off all my controllers and useable pixels and hang it up for awhile.

Sorry . I cannot recall the specifics .
You can check it in the .asm . Just open it in your favorite note/word editor . I believe I created the .hex from that .asm.

I'm not sure where to go forward from this. At one point in time I thought that the DIYC file library was a place to put the files, that they wouldn't disappear. Obviously that wasn't a correct assumption. So now I'm skeptical that there is any place to put the files where they won't disappear without a trace. I know that I have a bit of storage available in my earthlink, but who knows when they will change their t&c or get upset if there's too much traffic. And that would obviously disappear fairly quickly if I ever get hit by a bus.

I was able to download the mplab version you posted. I only have the version released with the device installation disk v7.60a. am installing the newer to see how far i can get.

as a follow up to this thread I was able to compile my hex file using the mpasmwin utility. Thanks for all the assistance. I'll see if my work was successful tomorrow AM.

Just an fyi, the older MPLab ide versions can all still be downloaded directly from microchip.

While this is true, for whatever reason the older version would not install completely on my windows laptop. Go figure.

Success! Again, to all that have pointed me in the correct direction, many thanks. May the show go on....... once I'm able to get Thanksgiving behind me.
