Forum Rules

Although the administrators and moderators of www.doityourselfchristmas.com will attempt to keep all objectionable
messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of
the author, and neither the owners of www.doityourselfchristmas.com, nor Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. (developers of vBulletin)
will be held responsible for the content of any message.

By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar,
sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

The owners of www.doityourselfchristmas.com reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.

FAILURE TO READ THE RULES IS NO EXCUSE FOR BREAKING THEM! PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE RULES BEFORE POSTING!
THE ADMINISTRATORS AND MODERATORS OF http://WWW.DOITYOURSELFCHRISTMAS.COM RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MOVE, REMOVE, EDIT, CLOSE POSTS OR BAN MEMBERS (HAVE POSTING PRIVILEGES REVOKED) WHO BREACH THESE RULES OR TERMS OF USE AT OUR SOLE DISCRETION, AND WITH OR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING OR EXPLANATION.

By using this Site, you acknowledge that all content, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted, is the sole responsibility of the person from which such content originated and neither are we legally responsible for any content on http://www.doityourselfchristmas.com.

The General Posting Rules are:

Flaming/Trolling - Any content that is unlawful, harmful, harassing, threatening, defamatory, vulgar, hateful or distasteful in nature are prohibited. Please use appropriate language. Continued threats against a member, moderator or administrator will NOT be tolerated. If you disagree with another member, respond to the subject, not the person as the Internet has made it easy to make personal attacks, you must still exercise courtesy and self-restraint here.

Software piracy - Any content containing registration key/serial numbers, cracks, warez or direct links relating to pirated software that violate copyright laws will automatically be removed as well as requests and offers for copyrighted material.

Bumping - This refers to posting with the deliberate intention to either pad your post count or to keep a thread 'hot' so it appears at the top of the forum. These type of posts can be described as useless information, gibberish, redundant or one-liners. Please try our search tools to see if there has already been a similar discussion first.

Multiple identities - Only one username or account is allowed per forum member. If you have forgotten your log in information, do not create a new account, please contact us.

Languages - All public content, including but not limited to titles, signatures or attachments MUST be in the English language.

Posting - Posts are to be made in the relevant forum. Users are asked to read the forum descriptions before posting. Users consistently posting to the wrong forum may be given a warning (see policing below). Double or cross forum posting or other attempts at flooding the forum with posts will be removed.

Adult/Explicit/Objectionable content - Any content that is unlawful, harmful, harassing, threatening, defamatory, vulgar, hateful or distasteful in nature are prohibited. Please use appropriate language. Continued threats against a member, moderator or administrator will NOT be tolerated. If you disagree with another member, respond to the subject, not the person as the Internet has made it easy to make personal attacks, you must still exercise courtesy and self-restraint here.
Members should remember this board is aimed at a general audience. Anything including pictures or links to pornographic content is strictly prohibited. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated and will lead to an immediate indefinite banning.

Moderation - Members are asked to not act as "back seat moderators". If members note an issue which contravenes something in this policy document they are welcome to bring it to the attention of a member of the Moderator Team. Only do this if a moderator team member has not replied within 6 hours. Do not respond to such topics yourself. Members who constantly "act" as moderators may be warned.
The moderating, support and other teams reserve the right to edit or remove any post at any time. The determination of what is construed as indecent, vulgar, spam, etc. as noted in these points is up to Team Members and not users.

Copyright - Members are asked to respect the copyright of other users, sites, media, etc. Users linking to or asking for information on or re-printing material without permission will receive a warning and their post will be removed.

Images - Members should respect the bandwidth of other users and sites. The use of inline () image tags pointing to data stored on third party systems for which the user has not received permission to link to may be removed.

Grammar - Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or colored text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts. Users consistently abusing this will be warned.

Titles - Members should use an appropriate, descriptive title when posting a new topic. Examples of bad titles include; "Help me!", "I'm stuck!", "I've got an error!", etc.

Spamming - Spam is not tolerated here under any circumstance. Users posting spam will be warned and their post removed. See specific item on spam and 3rd party linking for more information.

Privacy - Members are asked to not disclose to any 3rd party, board, or list any vulnerabilities in DIYC before first notifying the developers. You should submit all finds to the Administrator. Time should be allowed for us, at least 3 working days wherever possible, to respond.

Private Messaging - All forum rules where applicable also apply to private messaging. Abuse of the private messaging system may lead to warnings (as above), the revocation of private messaging and/or banning.

Warnings - DIYC operates a three strike policy. Users will be warned a maximum of three times for any and all offenses in a six month period. If the need arises for a fourth warning a temporary ban will be put in place of between 1 to 7 days.
Arguing with team members after having received a warning will lead to an immediate additional warning. Should this exceed three strikes a temporary ban will be put in place as above.
Users who feel they have been unfairly warned are welcome to contact the Administrator, e.g. if warned by a moderator you should contact the Administrator. If they feel you were treated badly they remove a warning.
An exception to the three strike rule applies when users contact other members personally (via any method) and post insulting, indecent or vulgar material. Such users may be subject to an immediate permanent ban.

Banning - Any attempt to circumvent a temporary ban will lead to that ban being made permanent. Circumvention includes re-registering under a non-banned username, changing IP addresses to evade an IP ban, registering a new email account of evade an email ban. Circumvention includes posting as an anonymous user.
Permanent bans are a last resort and thought is given before implementing them. While DIYC may consider lifting permanent bans from time to time this is a rare occurrence.
