Reading the forum this morning I was struck by the number of people that kind of understand xLights … but then hit something they can’t quite get working and in every case there is a fundamental misunderstanding of how/why something works … and if they could understand it suddenly everything would become much easier to do.

On July 17/18 in Mesquite Texas immediately prior to the Christmas Expo Sean Meighan (the xLights project owner) and myself (one of the developers) will be running a two day workshop on mastering xLights. It is aimed both at the beginner but also the person who kind of gets it and would like to understand a whole bunch more.

The classroom setting offers us the unique opportunity to really engage with the class in a more dynamic manner than zoom allows to explain concepts such as:

- How to get your first year show up and running from scratch
- How to configure props properly. Especially AC lights, matrices and trees.
- How to define start channels and universes to make moving props around each year simple and easy … yes there is a way of doing this that makes your life easy
- How to setup controllers right the first time every time … in 30 seconds.
- How to keep your life simple by making decisions that work with xLights and your controllers rather than fighting them
- How to troubleshoot problems
- Understanding how xLights renders effects onto models so you can actually produce the effect you want to
- Understanding how layers work together to allow you to produce even more complex effects
- Understand how to get the most out of some of the more advanced effects
- How to import sequences you have purchased or downloaded and how to tweak then to work well on your models
- How to transfer your show to the FPP and get it running first time
- How to setup schedules in xLights and to do more advanced things like put text on matrices, play videos and even add audience interactivity
- Understand how xSchedule can control something as complex as a Halloween show where props respond to the audience

So regardless of whether you are a beginner just getting started, or a user of several years who would like to understand better how things work so you can take your show to the next level this session is for you.

If you have ever sat in the zoom meeting desperate to ask a question but uncomfortable with speaking up, or struggling to describe your situation or objectives this session could really help get you running.
