Finally kicking my butt into this with a neighbor generously gifting an old Falcon F16V4

I have read some about what you guys say and I think I have a WHAT I want, but will need to post in right area. Since I'm a designer (print then web), I can photoshop an idea to get the wife to sign off... hopefully. I'm really tight on budget. Trying to add my display on my house w small price impact (sub $500?).

Welcome to opinions and suggestions.

Have you designed in Vixen or Xlights yet? Because with that Falcon, odds are that's what you'll need to design with.

Welcome!

Besides drawing some things you might like to do (in Vixen or xLights or on paper), I would go to someone's website that has all the stuff you need. Try to do a $500 buy of supplies and then build your show with that. For example you can probably get 600 ws2811 pixels with power supply, box, a few cables and then maybe 4 snowflakes. Build those snowflakes and see what you can do. $500 is a very small budget to get started. You might be able to do an outline using some pixels. Mounting would take up the money you'd spend on snowflakes but you could do quite bit of outline with 600 4 inch spaced pixels. If my math works, that would be about 200 feet of outline. Save some money for some power injection cables.

If you a want, post a picture of your house and you will probably get some more ideas.

thanks, I just installed Xlights and making progress. I'm use to Adobe Premier, so I am hoping my learning skills will be useful.

Thank you. Yes, I have it posted on another thread: https://doityourselfchristmas.com/f...elp-me-navigate-my-design-for-a-noobie.61288/
I will take note of your comments. I have a lot to learn and absorbing as much as I can right now. Watched some YT videos on various stuff I'm curious about.

Welcome to the hobby! One of the things I've done to keep costs down is to buy 1/2" or 1/2" x 3/4" plastic fencing (snow fence) from HD or Menards. Lay out your design on the fencing and make believe it's a light bright. Custom prop for a minimum cost.1758756517221.png

BTW, that is a static picture. What I mean is the arms move when sequenced. There's about 400 pixels in that prop. lol
