Overview

What the heck is a Portaflood?

Well the "portaflood" is a modification to a common household 500 watt halogen floodlight whereas the guts have all been removed and a circuit board containing 162 light emitting diodes arranged into groups of three circuits are installed in place...

Why three circuits

The three grouped circuits can allow you to have up to 3 possible led colors on the board as a typical reg, green, and blue mix of leds. With just these 3 colors and by adjusting the brightness of each individual color you can archive up to 16.7 million possible color combinations.

Driving the leds

The portaflood does not contain any of the high current switching onboard similar to the MR-16 leds where either a DC SSR or use of a 24vac dimmer has to be used to drive the leds.

The Designer

The design originated by a fellow member Matt Edwards and with the help from John Wilson a production board has been made available
