Vixen Menu Reference

The following describes various options on Vixen's toolbars. Items with an asterisk (*) are only available when a sequence is open.

Sequence Menu

New event Sequence

Allows you to create a new sequence. Choose a sequence type from the sub-menu - if you are unsure, you probably want a "Vixen standard sequence".

Open an event sequence

Allows you to open a sequence you have saved previously.

Save and Save As *

Allows you to save the sequence to disk. Note that sequences are saved in the Sequences directory of your Vixen program folder by default. You should not save them any other place, or you will have trouble using certain functions of the program.

Export and Import channel names list *

The Export command generates a text file with a list of the channel names in the current sequence. The Import command takes a list in the same format (one channel per line) and imports the names into your current sequence.

Print channel configuration *

This command prints out your channels. The submenu allows you to order order them by "natural channel order" (the order you see them in the editor) or by "channel output" (the order in which they are sent to your hardware). This can be useful when setting up your display.

Audio *

Brings up the Audio menu, where you can select music for your sequence and also add events to the sequence by tapping certain keys while the music plays.

Channel output mask *

Allows you to enable or disable channels for output.

Settings *

This panel allows you to set sequence-specific settings, including the minimum and maximum illumination level for output. This specifies what the minimum and maximum values in the sequence are.

This panel also allows you to set the event period length. This is the length of time represented by one column on the grid.

Set background sequence

This allows you to select a scripted sequence to run in the background when no other sequences are running. This can be used to, for example, clear all channels on a controller periodically so they do not leave lights on during the day. (Most hardware controllers do not have this problem.)

Recent

This gives a list of sequences you have recently used. You can click on them to open them.

Programs Menu

Manage

Opens the program manager, where you can create, edit and delete programs.

Schedule

Opens the scheduler, where you can schedule when sequences and programs run automatically.

Restart current timers

This starts any items that are scheduled to be running right now. It can be used to start any items that you had stopped or that didn't start for some reason.

Profiles

Manage

Opens the profile manager, where you can create, edit, and delete profiles and channel groups.

Create profile from sequence *

This takes the settings from the current sequence and wraps them all up into a profile so you can use the same settings in other sequences.

Attach sequence to profile *

This allows you to apply the settings from a profile you have already created to the current sequence.

Detach sequence from its profile *

This removes a sequence's association with a profile. Any changes made to the profile will no longer have any effect on the sequence.

Flatten profile into sequence *

This takes any settings from the profile and applies them directly to the sequence. This is important when sharing sequence files - that way all the settings are in the sequence directly and it doesn't need your profile for someone else to view it.

Create channel groups from sequence channels *

This opens the channel groups editor, where a list of the channels in your sequence is available. You can make a channel group using the sequences in the list.
