Can you offset strands? Will xlights allow that?

Question if fairly simple. I?m going to re-do the tree next year in an attempt to get more HD. As I thought about this, I thought? what if I continued to use the same spacing ?3? but offset every other strand so that at 3? intervals the strand would fill in the blanks each side. Not sure if I?m explaining that right. Is that possible?

I remember this being discussed a few years back. Not a 100% sure, but I believe they were taking their tree and creating a custom model with every other strand shifted. Hopefully someone who tried it will chime in.
