Matrix scrolling text jerky.

I have a 3x2 P10 matrix setup for tune to sign. Using a Pi3B and colorlight card to run it. Scrolling text is jerky and I thought it was because I run at 20fps but it's also jerky at 40fps. Would using a 3B+ or Pi4 help. The Pi is hardwired no wifi.
