New matrix no contrast?

Not sure if that's how to title this.

New ESP32 Matrix, 256 node 16x16 matrix all works mostly well except contrast.
I can adjust the contrast slider and the model preview show it adjusting as it should, but my matrix only displays full contrast. The node is on or off, no varying dimness between adjacent nodes. A picture only gives you the outline of the major item in the picture, but no contrast or ability to see any detail.
 
With a 16x16 matrix you won't be able to use pictures very effectively. Not enough pixels. Pictures are meh.. on my 84x42 matrix. Not sure if that is what youre referring to or not. The preview in xLights will look much better than it does in real life. 16x16 I would recommend text and effects only
 
two things have occurred, Agreed - it is a small matrix so very hard to see detail of any kind.
Also deleted and rebuilt it and contrast seemed to be there now. pictures are yes horrible, but now I can see some shading on things like the say enabling 3d setting on say "Fan".
