Renard AC SSR8 Heating Up

Hi everybody,

I am trying to setup a christmas light display for the first year. I have a couple Renard SSR 8 boards. However, when I was testing them, I noticed that the Triacs are getting rather hot. They were only on for about 5 or 10 minutes. Is this normal?

Well, depends....how much of a load in amps do you have on each channel? Is there a heatsink installed?
And do you mean this is a Renard SS8 V1.0

Yep, it's the SS8 with no heatsinks. That channel had about 2 sets of icicles on it. I'm not sure how many amps that would be. Around 6 light series

It's about 6 amps right now. I plan on dividing those lights among two channels so that it would be 3A on each. Would 3A still be too much on one channel?

Thanks for your reply, Wayne.
Also, is there a specific heat sink I should get for the triacs? Or is something like this fine: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072ZSBH17/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lbUfCbTP1W1DC

This is what you need..... (all things SS Renard are in the wiki  )
