Help with Plumbing issue (non blinky flashy)

Trying to catch up on my home projects and ran into a connector in the kitchen sink sprayer line that I have never encountered before. Does anyone know the correct name of this thing? Have a link to a page about it / buy one / How to use it? I cant just rip it apart because that would disable the main sink in the house (wife considers this a bad thing).

Having no specific knowledge, I would suspect this is either an inline filter or a pressure adjuster (for either high or low water pressure). There is an off chance that it stops sudden pressure changes when the sprayer opens and then closes.

Please keep in mind that these are guesses.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. It looks like I need to get a different sprayer but now I know what to look for. Diverter, never would have thought to call it that.
