General Information

This is a wall washer that was created as just that but it has been used for much more than that.

What is it? It is a 450mm x 18mm (18" x 0.7") PCB on which can be mounted 5050 RGB LED's. LED's are in groups of 3. Each group of three has it's own resistors. 6 or 12 LEDs most be mounted. Jumpers allow for connection to 12V DC or 24V DC. LED spacing is approximately 37mm (1.7")

One end has footprint for a RJ45 socket as well as a 4P header the same as used on the TigerDMX120.

Current draw assuming resistors set for 20mA 12V 6 LEDs.... 40mA per colour/channel, 120mA from positive 12 LEDs.. 80mA per colour/channel, 240mA from positive

24V Half of the 12V figures.

How the PCB is Laid Out

The way the PCB is laied out is as follows. It's split in half. 6 on each side are split into 3. The 3 are every other one. so from the RJ45. LED 1,3,5 are in series and LED 2,4,6 are in series. same with LED 7,9,11 are in series and 8,10,12. So in theory, you could just populate 1,3,5,7,9,11 or 2,4,6,8,10,12 if it's too bright.

The jumpers are used to either put group 1,3,5 and 7,9,11 in series (24 v) or parallel (12v) same with group 2,4,6 and 8,10,12 in series (24v) or parallel (12v).

How to Build

Supplies Needed

  • Skillet - Large enough to sit atleast 1 on it. Not necessary but makes it alot easier to solder.
  • Solder Paste - A must as regular solder has to much flux and will cause issues
  • 12 PLC6-5050 RGB leds
  • Tweezers
  • 8 150 ohm SMD Resistors (for blue and green)
  • 4 360 ohm SMD Resistors (red Led)
  • 1 RJ45 Jack

Mouser BOM [[2]]

  • The mouser bom does not contain the 5050 RGB Leds, those can be obtained online.

Skillet needs to long, atleast 18in. Walmart sells one for 19 bucks.

Step-By-Step Instructions

  1. You will start out by gathering all the stuff listed above. It is good to have a nice, clean, open area to work. If working inside a house with the skillet and solder paste, make sure you have proper ventilation as it will smoke and have a smell. Its not bad, but noticiable by the significant other lol. ***Note = Solder paste has to sit outside the fridge for about an hr before use.***
    1. First step is lay out all the components in separate piles so you know what is what. For me its easier to open all the pieces and put them in piles. Use a pair of tweezers to turn over all parts so you know what your looking at.
    1. Next you apply a small amount of paste to each pad. IT
