How many computerised displays are there?

Hey there,

I can't say I was computerised this year, but 2010 will be very exciting! This year was my first static display in our new house. After putting some lights up, the neighbour turns his on with more stuff, and so it begins!

I came across this site too late in the year to computerise, but I've put the court on notice that next year is going to be bigger. Not sure if that was a good idea or not, as now I have to pull it off.

So, a busy year ahead, learning, building and sequencing!

Thanks for all the inspiration, keep up the good work and I look forward to working with you guys for 2010 and beyond!

Sorry John, I just noticed I forgot to add that, so edited my profile.

I'm in the Ringwood area. We actually drove past your display the other night, parked and stood in the middle of your court for a good 20 mins!! Very nice.

It was even better as I got permission to build stuff, so thanks for that! I look forward to your 2010 display!

Cheers,

Greg

I was told to go shopping at the DFO in the city . . . last time I was there all I got to do was talk about lights. I fear this year will be the same, no time for girly pursuits :( darn it! ;)

Hi all,
I know of 3 in Bris - Vegas (Brisbane)

Xccentric @ Stafford.
sallz0r @ Rochedale South.
Driver @ Bald Hills.

Thats all I know of.

Well me at Clontarf. Just a grinch. But we have to start somewhere.
Are we going to have a mini in Brisbane this year? I read somewhere they where looking at it, let me know. I would be able to get there if it does not clash with Uni.
Regards
Laurie

we're down in Melbourne too.

I'd be keen to find out some of the addresses around - way easier than just driving in circles with my fingers crossed!

Wow, didn't realize there was so many others in Brisbane -- I only knew of one other. But yeah, there's not too many up this way. :-(

Driver / David_AVD -- where are you guys? would be interested to see your display -- or I don't suppose you have videos online, etc., to see what it's like?

Sallz0r! :D Have you got your awesome display up again this year? Been waiting for the new youtubes :D

I'm at Bald Hills on the northside of Brisbane. My display isn't in the competition, but I'm more than happy to organise a demo for you or anyone on this forum.

My display only has ~4660 Lights over 57 circuits (Hill64 Controller).

Video - first 30seconds of music... (1 long nights work) I've since sync'd another 30seconds tonight.

And rushed job of 'Wizards of Winter' as my first vixen experience... http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=252923893905

Will hopefully borrow a HD Camcorder soon, so I'll get some better clips up soon i hope :)

Xccentric's display (Stafford Church) is also well worth looking at if your heading over this way. Their engineering with their own software/ethernet controllers is really cool.

Yep, it's all going -- but I didn't have as much time this year (started a new job a few months ago, plus other things) so didn't make any changes -- that's why there haven't been any youtube videos, since it's just the exact same display as last year. :-(

It looks awesome! I love the garage shot, of everything in your rack.... ;-)

Oh, really? that's cool -- if I can get away from my display one night, I'll head over and check it out. Any idea what they use (hardware wise? software? etc.?)

I'm looking at redesigning my controller boards completely next year, and changing to ethernet myself, using one of the small 32-bit micros with onboard ethernet.... would be interesting to see how they're doing it....

(speaking of which, that means I'm going to have a heap of controller boards and hardware (and lights as well, actually -- string lights and rope lights) that I don't need anymore. If anyone's interested in them, let me know -- there's some for 24VAC, 240VAC, and a heap of lights as well...)

ah yes, i know the lack-of-time feeling.

IIRC they made their own controllers along those microcontroller/ethernet module design. Their server app just pumped out constant UDP broadcast data to them all. (Nice & simple on the scale of things ;)) One of their guys wrote their own software; with a programming app similar/better than vixen. I'm sure Xccentric will post further details. It's well worth the look!

Might be interested in some controllers... I'd reallly like to get some 24VAC dimming for my gutter.

another town gets its only computer controlled xmas display

@Driver, did you use to frequent OCAU? I remember a few years(2004 I think) back a guy named drive posted up their display in the forums. It was also what kick started me into wanting to have a computer controlled display :D.
